Looks like YOU haven’t watched the 1978 Tobe Hooper original movie. In the original, the hitchhiker doesn’t shoot himself in the head (he just plays with a knife and hurts someone with it). And it looks like there are a lot of other differences. Haven’t seen the remake though.
